Systems We Test Under Regulation 4

LAFD Chief's Regulation 4 requires annual testing and certification for the fire life safety systems in commercial buildings. We cover all six system categories:

Fire Sprinkler Systems

Annual NFPA 25 testing, 5-year Title 19 internal pipe certification, head replacement and leak repair.

Fire Alarm & Detection

NFPA 72 annual testing of every initiating device, notification appliance, FACP and battery backup.

Fire Pumps

NFPA 25 annual flow and churn tests for electric and diesel-driven fire pumps, plus pump room inspection.

Standpipes

Annual flow test and 5-year hydrostatic test per NFPA 25 to verify pressure and waterway integrity.

Emergency Power & Lighting

NFPA 110 generator load bank testing, NFPA 101 90-minute battery discharge test, and exit sign inspection.

Backflow Preventers

Annual testing to confirm the fire sprinkler supply does not contaminate the domestic water system.
