Annual Fire Pump Test

The annual fire pump test is the full-performance test LAFD Chief's Regulation 4 requires each year. Technicians confirm the pump starts automatically on a pressure drop, run it through no-flow and full-flow conditions, record suction and discharge pressures and engine or motor readings, and document everything on the report filed for you with The Compliance Engine (Brycer).

Fire Pump Flow Test & Churn Test

A churn test is the no-flow test that confirms the pump starts and holds pressure at shutoff. The annual flow test moves water through calibrated flow-measuring equipment — a hose monster and playpipe arrangement on the test header, or an inline flow meter where one is installed — to capture pressure and GPM at churn, 100% and 150% of rated capacity. Those points are plotted against the manufacturer's pump curve to show whether the pump still performs as designed.

NFPA 25 Fire Pump Testing

NFPA 25 is the national standard LAFD inspectors reference for the inspection, testing and maintenance of water-based fire protection systems. It sets the weekly or monthly no-flow test interval, the annual full-flow test, and the data that has to be recorded for each.
